Main Rules
1000 turns of freedom from thread. 1000 turns to grow and blossom. 1000 turns of idleness.
1000 turns have past since the Red Star was pushed from it's orbit leaving Pern free of its eternal enemy. With no threat of Thread the people spread out and made beautiful home through-out the planet. The dragons bred less often and became smaller. They were also left with the option of working for holders, carrying items and people, or becoming rebels and supporting themselves. Many chose to live together in 'mini-weyrs' occasionally playing the games that used to keep rider on their toes for thread.
1000 turns of no Thread had also allowed technology to expand and genes to be played with. Electricity and the telephone was invented as well as watches and a way to cut stone super fast. New colors of Dragons, Firelizards, and Whers were developed. And intelligence in the Whers and Flits was improved.
About 10 or so turns ago the queens began to rise more often and the clutches began to become larger and larger. 'Weyrleaders' and the Queenriders were unsure why this was happening, but they passed the information to Stargazers who reported seeming nothing unusual. So the rest of Pern never heard about this. Also the size of the dragons was increasing again and a new color appeared about 2 turns ago. Now with the first Topaz queen ready to raise a young Stargazer has spotted the reason for the increase of numbers and sizes. The Red Star, Pern's old enemy, has returned. About 3 months ago a dolphin reported a thread fall over the ocean. Prompting the remaining dragon's and riders to band together and found Lyer Weyr, thus named for the fact that the rest of the planet believed that the riders were lying to them about the fall, but when a fall fell over a small hold in the south, Sunset Valley Hold, and several dragons were lost due to their lack of skill in fighting thread, the entire planet turned to the riders and their mighty dragons. Sunset Falls Hold was set up to supply the new and only Weyr with food and other essentials. Also with the thread fall came complete destruction on the electrical grid. Telephone still work, but most of Pern is let in complete darkness.
The young Topaz, Avalith, rose almost a month ago and is now egg heavy. The weyr sits in an old volcano, the top of which was blown off, centuries ago, close to where AVAIS and Landing once stood, the super computer now rests in a museum somewhere in the North. Weyrs, halls, barracks, etc... were carved out using the last of the fuel on the planet and super-efficient stone cutters, much like the ones the original colonists had. Anya, Avalith's rider is left with an entire planet watching her for guidance. With the weyrleader dead, due to a small thread fall over his family, the young girl is left to make decisions, which will affect an entire planet and its fate, all on her own.
Pern's 2 remaining Golds don't see eye to eye with each other. One, Ilterith, refuses to listen to Avalith so instead of accepting her rule and command she and her rider leave the weyr to remain rebels. The other, Avalith's mother Evalith, backed down and let her daughter take over. She follows the young topaz and listens to her commands. Some holders are displeased with the fact that their fate now lies in the hands of a 16 turn-old. So they turn to the 10 turn-old Gold Magith and her 29 turn-old rider Alira for leadership. Now with Avalith about to clutch Ilterith is trying to win over dragons to join her and try to found a second weyr and win over the holders. And now with 18 eggs hardening on the sands it seems that Ilterith may have more support.
